Most design jobs ask you to make something a human will look at. Mintlify is one of the few places where roughly half of what you ship will be consumed by a machine.
That is not a metaphor. In its own State of AI report, Mintlify found that nearly 50% of traffic to documentation now comes from AI agents and AI-assisted workflows rather than a person scanning a page. The company raised a $45M Series B in April 2026 at a $500M valuation, led by Andreessen Horowitz and Salesforce Ventures, on exactly that thesis: documentation stopped being content and became infrastructure.
For designers and product people, that makes Mintlify an unusual bet: a high craft bar, a product developers actually love, and a core design problem nobody has solved yet. Here is what the roles look like, what the company pays, and the one thing about location you should know before applying.
What Mintlify actually does
Han Wang and Hahnbee Lee met in Cornell's design and technology program and started Mintlify in their senior year, going through Y Combinator's W22 batch. The original pitch was very developer-shaped: they had both been the person at 2am trying to integrate an API from a stale README, and they wanted to fix that.
The product today powers documentation for more than 20,000 companies, reaching over 100 million people a year. Anthropic's Claude Code documentation team is a publicly documented customer.
What changed is the audience. Mintlify's bet is that when an AI agent needs to understand a product, it does not read the marketing site, it reads the docs. The company has built toward that with an AI agent that writes and updates content from prompts, always-on automations that keep docs accurate, and MCP support to connect a knowledge base directly to external agents. Customers have also started pulling Mintlify inside their walls, using it for internal handbooks and design systems.
Total funding sits at $67M, with Bain Capital Ventures, Y Combinator and HubSpot Ventures alongside the Series B leads.
What the Woody data shows about hiring here
Mintlify roles has changed a lot:
- October 2023, Head of Design. San Francisco, onsite, listed at $100k to $150k.
- May 2026, Senior / Staff Product Designer. United States, remote, listed at over $200k.
- July 2026, Senior Brand Designer / Web Designer / Product Designer. Europe, remote, listed at $150k to $200k.
Two things jump out. First, the design compensation band at Mintlify has roughly doubled in under three years, tracking the funding. Second, and more useful if you are outside the US, Mintlify's own Series B post says the team is "fully in-person in San Francisco," yet the two most recent design roles on Woody are both remote, and one of them is explicitly EU remote at a US-shaped salary band.
That gap matters. A $150k to $200k band for a European-based brand design role is well above typical European market rate for the same title. If you are a senior designer in Europe watching US startups quietly close their borders, this is one of the few live counterexamples. Read it as a signal that Mintlify's stated in-person default has exceptions for senior design talent, not as a blanket remote policy.

What it is like to work there
Mintlify crossed 50 employees around the Series B and describes itself as scaling aggressively.
The published values are specific: "We hire for slope over y-intercept," which is a direct statement that they weight growth rate over current credentials. Also listed: driven, fast, high-agency, genuine, and humility, with "egos are not allowed" spelled out. Outside reporting echoes it, describing customer-obsessed founders who demand excellence, a low-ego culture, and transparency about financials, metrics and challenges.
The perks are San Francisco startup standard, with several that only make sense in the office: fully covered health, dental and vision, 20 days PTO, 401k or RRSP matching, free lunch and dinner, free Ubers to and from the office, a work setup stipend, a $420 monthly wellness stipend, and an annual team offsite. If you take a remote role, assume the food and commute perks do not apply and ask what does.
The hiring process
Mintlify publishes a hiring page and runs a public take-home platform at interviews.mintlify.com, so the process is more documented than at most companies this size.
Based on candidate reports aggregated on Glassdoor, the loop averages around 11 days end to end, which is fast. Difficulty is rated around 3 out of 5, with design engineer and operations candidates reporting the hardest interviews. It includes behavioral questions on problem solving and collaboration, role-relevant craft questions, and a flexible "showcase" stage designed around your specific area of expertise.
That showcase stage is the one to prepare for. Treat it as an invitation to bring the work you are proudest of and drive the conversation, rather than waiting to be quizzed.
Salaries, and how to read them
Two sources, and they disagree, so use both carefully.
From live Woody listings, which reflect what Mintlify is advertising right now: over $200k for the US Senior / Staff Product Designer, $150k to $200k for the EU remote senior brand and web design role. These are the numbers the company itself is publishing on current openings.
From Levels.fyi, average software engineer total compensation in the US is reported at $93k to $132k, with a median around $93k. Treat that with caution: the sample is small, it covers engineering rather than design, and it likely skews toward earlier hires before the Series B repriced the bands. The gap between that figure and the current listings is itself the story.
Equity is offered on top, and at a $500M valuation post-Series B there is still meaningful room, though you are no longer joining at seed-stage pricing.
Should you apply?
Apply if you want to work on a design problem that does not have settled answers yet, if you are comfortable in a fast in-person-leaning startup, and if you want breadth across brand, web and product rather than a narrow surface. Skip it if you need a mature design org with layers of support, or a guaranteed fully-remote setup.
