Role Overview
Mercury is on a mission to defy expectations in financial technology, focusing on thoughtful design. Weβre looking for a Staff Brand Designer to uphold our high standards of craft and elevate our brand design work.
Responsibilities
- Set and uphold the craft standard for Mercury's brand across campaigns, web, social, events, and every surface the brand touches.
- Lead the most technically complex and high-visibility brand design projects end-to-end, from brief through delivery.
- Partner with a staff-level brand designer and creative leadership to co-lead the evolution of Mercury's creative direction.
- Provide hands-on craft oversight across Brand Studio output, raising quality and helping the team make better decisions.
- Commission and art-direct external creatives: photographers, illustrators, and motion designers.
- Develop brand system documentation and frameworks for decision-making consistency.
- Mentor IC3 and IC4 designers through critique and direct feedback.
- Collaborate with brand strategists, copywriters, PMMs, and leadership on brand representation.
What youβll bring
- A portfolio demonstrating mastery of typography, layout, color, and composition across various contexts.
- A clear aesthetic point of view built through years of rigorous practice.
- Fluency in brand systems, understanding how to build for scale and consistency.
- 7β10+ years of brand design experience in high-craft environments.
- Experience operating at a staff level, influencing without authority.
- Proficiency in Figma and experience with design systems.
- Strong verbal and presentation skills.
- The judgment to know when to zoom in and when to zoom out.
- Curiosity, restraint, and passion for impactful work.
Compensation
The total rewards package includes base salary, equity (stock options/RSUs), and benefits. Salary ranges are competitive within the SaaS and fintech industry.
Locations
San Francisco, CA, New York, NY, Portland, OR, or Remote within Canada or United States.
