About the role
- Work on the learning experience of Brilliant9s web and mobile apps.
- Design core interactions that teach math, science, data, and programming concepts through game-like modules.
- Craft interaction patterns making complex concepts approachable and addictively learnable.
- Translate pedagogical needs into elegant UX, prototype at high fidelity, and ship polished experiences.
- Collaborate with content experts and engineers to bring designs to life.
- Help learners understand topics from probability to programming interactively.
Responsibilities
- Design new educational games that captivate learners and make foundational concepts addictive.
- Own and evolve the UX of Brilliant9s learning games across web and mobile.
- Invent and refine new interactive patterns (symbolic math, constructing graphs, drag-and-drop coding).
- Prototype quickly and at high fidelity to test feasibility, usability, and delight.
- Produce polished UI, icons, motion studies, prototypes, and clear Figma specs.
- Work with content experts to choose the clearest way to teach technical topics.
- Extend and steward design systems to scale across platforms and teams.
- Maintain the Brilliant brand and contribute to a culture of excellence and accountability.
- Continuously ask how designs help learners.
Requirements
- 5+ years of product design experience at consumer or SaaS companies.
- Experience with content platforms such as education, news, publishing, video, or gaming is a plus.
- Focus on building useful, usable, and desirable products.
- Ability to turn ambiguous problems into clear plans and shipped products.
- Proficient prototyping skills with tools like Figma, Principle, Framer, or coding.
- Portfolio showcasing features built from scratch, especially complex interactions.
- Interest in Brilliant9s subject areas and learning processes.
- Clear writing and documentation skills.
- Willingness to experiment with new tools to improve workflow and output.
