Responsibilities
- Conceptualize, design and produce visual assets for third-party platforms such as YouTube, TikTok and Instagram, working within predefined brand guidelines and systems
- Contribute to the creative ideation and art direction of Times Opinion journalism
- Contribute to expanding audience reach for Opinion journalism through video, audio and immersive digital design
- Participate in training and social programs designed for the fellowship
- Collaborate with colleagues across the Opinion section
- Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world
Basic Qualifications
- No more than five years of full-time, professional journalism experience, excluding internships
- A design portfolio with an eye toward storytelling
- Proficiency in motion design and After Effects
- Proficiency in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite
- Can work within pre-existing brand guidelines and systems
- An interest in news (social, cultural and political) and the ability to collaborate with a range of editors, writers and photographers
Preferred Qualifications
- Record of multiple journalism internships, or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of digital design experience
- Previous art direction experience
- Portfolio demonstrating conceptual illustration and collage
