Job Description
As a founding designer, youโll be embodying the quality bar for the whole GitBook experience. Your work and attention will span across visual design down to minute details, UI and UX design, all the way to coding on the some frontend parts of the Product (UI and Design System). Weโre looking for a generalist profile that considers design holistically, and cares as much about how things look, how things feel and how things work.You have a solid track record of owning visual design, iconography, motion graphics, user-centered UI design, and some experience coding (JavaScript, CSS, HTML needed, some React is ideal).
๐ What you'll be doing
Part of our Product team, your mission will include:
- Taking ownership of the visual language of the GitBook product and delivering consistently high-quality interface screens and components
- Shared ownership of our Design System and UI component library (with engineering)
- Collaborating with Product to take early stage explorations through to high-quality prototypes
- Collaborating with engineers to nail the specifics of production prototypes and coded components

Detail-focused also applies to your process, and you're able to produce work that covers multiple bases โ your buttons have hover and active states, interactions are documented, edge-cases are considered, and you can bring clarity to a development process.
