Sketch

Community Forum Manager

Job Description

At Sketch, we help designers and their collaborators โ€” from solo makers, to large-scale organisations โ€” to create amazing things. Weโ€™ve been in business for over ten years and weโ€™re far from finished.

Weโ€™re looking for someone gets excited about growing online communities to join us and take our new community forum to the next level.

What youโ€™ll do

Working within our marketing team, youโ€™ll take ownership of our newly minted community forum and grow it into an amazing place to discuss all things Sketch and design. Youโ€™ll be responsible for all parts of this โ€” from hands-on moderation and content creation, to high-level strategy and reporting. Weโ€™re excited about the potential our forum has to nurture meaningful conversations that bring our community closer to what we do, and to each other. Youโ€™ll be there to make everyone involved feel valued and have a positive experience.

In a typical week you will

  • Play an active role within the forum โ€” responding to posts, joining conversations and sparking new discussions.

  • Handle day-to-day moderation, from approving first posts for new forum members, to applying our community guidelines and escalating any issues.

  • Work closely with our content and social teams to create a regular cadence of new content within the forum, based on updates to our product and trends within the design industry.

  • Work alongside our web team, who handle the forumโ€™s technical upkeep, to introduce fixes, improvements and new features.

  • Understand our latest product updates, liaising with our product teams to introduce new and experimental features to forum members, and solicit feedback.

  • Continually reviewing and updating our community guidelines, making sure they remain relevant and effective at growing a healthy forum community.

  • Measuring the growth and health of the forum, deciding on goals and objectives for the future and regularly reporting on these to the marketing team.

  • Summarising insights and conversations and sharing them with the rest of the company.

  • Reaching out to Discourse to raise and resolve any issues we might face.

  • Managing the community email inbox, fielding any requests.

  • At peak times, assisting our social media team with community management on our social channels.

  • Contribute to wider marketing team discussions with your own ideas and play your part in key initiatives and campaigns.

Who you are

Youโ€™re self-motivated, intuitive and proactive when it comes to building and nurturing online communities. Youโ€™ll have plenty of experience managing community forums like ours and youโ€™ll care about making them welcoming and positive spaces. Youโ€™re not afraid to get hands-on and make things happen, nor plan ahead or report on results.

We have a self-management philosophy at Sketch, which means youโ€™ll need to feel comfortable with setting your own goals and managing your own day-to-day work. Rather than being accountable to a single manager, youโ€™re accountable to the marketing team (as we all are to each other).

We work remotely and asynchronously, so youโ€™ll need to have an excellent grasp of written English, clear communication skills, and be comfortable working in this type of environment.

Essentials

  • A proven and successful history (2+ years) of nurturing and growing online communities

  • Working knowledge of modern forum software (ideally Discourse, which we use) โ€” both as a member and moderator.

  • Experience of using Google Analytics.

  • Strong organisation and communication skills.

  • Comfortable managing your own time and projects in a remote environment.

  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with lots of other talented people.

  • Based in (or close to) European/African time zones.

Bonus points

  • A background or strong personal interest in digital design.

  • Working knowledge of Sketch and other design tools.

  • Understanding of social media management tools (we use Sprout) and experience of community management in social media.

  • A good habit of documenting your work in a shared knowledge base (we use Notion).

  • Have previously worked in an in-house marketing team or creative agency.

What we offer

  • A full-time opportunity with a flexible working schedule

  • An international environment and working culture

  • As many vacation days as you need

  • Any training you need to develop in your job

  • Private healthcare and gym reimbursements

  • The hardware you need

  • Paid family leave

  • An annual company meetup

Even if you're not able to tick all of these boxes, we would still love to hear from you.

About Sketch

Website Linkedin

Back in 2010, there were no tools made just for UI designers. Creating apps, websites and pixel-perfect icons meant working with software that wasnโ€™t built for this kind of digital craft. And that frustration is where Sketch started.

Today, weโ€™re still building the best editor for the Mac, along with web-based tools for collaboration, feedback and handoff โ€” bringing developers, project managers and clients into the design process.

As Sketch continues to evolve, we want to make creating great designs even more intuitive. And as we grow, weโ€™ll continue to do it in the only way we know how โ€” building thoughtful features, solving real problems, and helping everyone design incredible things.
