The Product Management Hiring Index
What product management job ads actually ask for, read across every posting we have scraped. No survey. Just the words in the ads, read with published regular expressions.
Every figure is the share of postings that mention something. A posting that never names Figma is not a team working without it. How this is measured.
The index has not been computed yet.
The numbers are published by hand rather than on a schedule. This page fills in on the next run.
How this is measured
Woody scrapes job postings from company boards every day. This report reads the text of those postings, including the ones never published on the site, which is what makes the sample large enough to cut by role and market.
No model reads the ads. Each signal is a regular expression, hand-written and tested against real postings. That is a deliberate limit: a regex reads words, not meaning, so every number here is the share of postings that mention something, never the share of jobs that need it.
The tool figure at the top is by vendor, because otherwise it turns on which of a maker's products an advertisement happened to name. Adobe means any of Adobe Creative Cloud, Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe XD, After Effects, and Premiere Pro. Atlassian means any of Jira, Confluence, and Trello. Counted once per posting, never those products added up: 714 product management postings name more than one Atlassian tool, which would inflate 9.2% to 14.2%. The bars themselves always name the product.
A cell is published only when it holds at least 40 postings. Below that a percentage describes the sample rather than the market. A posting can be filed under more than one role, so the cells overlap.
The role comes from the job title, by the same kind of expression as the signals. A title that says "designer" without saying which kind is filed under Product Design; one that names another trade, a fashion or game designer, is filed under none. Country comes from the location the board declared, and about a fifth of the postings filed under a role carry no usable one, so the markets do not add up to Worldwide.
Seniority is the one exception. A title says junior or senior or nothing at all, so mid-level, which is the largest group we have, can only come from our own enrichment, and that does use a model. Every other figure on this page is read from the text of the ads.
