Responsibilities

  • Managing a team of user researchers across 1-3 β€œcollectives” (product verticals like Payments or Wealth)
  • Working closely with collective leadership to shape product strategies and ensure teams solve the right customer problems
  • Scaling the impact of research on strategies across the organisation
  • Increasing visibility of key research insights and ensuring action is taken
  • Collaborating with the Director of Research to prioritize high impact areas and empower individuals
  • Understanding direct reports to place them for impact, growth, and happiness
  • Developing sustainable talent nurturing within the Research team
  • Leading forums to allow research team participation in decisions and team shaping
  • Working with Research Operations and Director to scale team systems and processes
  • Raising the standard of research through feedback and improved processes
  • Hiring diverse User Researchers and ensuring smooth onboarding
  • Maintaining an active presence in the external community to attract diverse hiring prospects

Day-to-day

  • Developing and delivering product strategy across 1-3 critical business areas
  • Supporting 5-10 direct reports with development goals, updates, feedback, and regular 1:1s
  • Collaborating with key stakeholders across the organisation for strategy alignment and support
  • Working closely with design, product, marketing data, and engineering leadership to solve customer needs
  • Shaping development practices, including progression frameworks
  • Participating in Design Leadership team with senior leaders
  • Educating Monzo staff on research capabilities and limitations

Requirements

  • Experience as a User Researcher in a high growth product or technology organisation
  • Ability to bring momentum, unblock progress, and focus on exciting outcomes
  • Care about product quality and customer experience
  • Collaboration experience with Data, Product, and Design teams
  • Experienced coach, mentor, and leader with at least 5 years experience
  • Leadership style that supports and empowers team autonomy
  • Managed a team of at least 3 high performers and resolved performance issues
  • Experience teaching and coaching non-researchers about research
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion in decision making
  • Experience utilizing marketing insights, quantitative research, product data, and other insights

Interview Process

  • Recruiter call (30 minutes) focusing on suitability
  • Research Leadership Ways of Working interview (60 minutes) with pre-interview task
  • Final loop of two interviews (1.5-2 hours total) on managing teams and teamwork & impact

Benefits

  • Salary Β£90,000-Β£125,000 plus stock options
