Job Description
- Design and refine 2D and 3D map visualizations from concept to production delivery.
- Maintain and enhance TomTom's core map styles for consistency and readability.
- Collaborate daily with engineering teams on map data structures and renderers.
- Provide input on data and rendering requirements for design goals.
- Participate in user research and advocate for design improvements.
- Contribute to the Map Visualization design system and document guidelines.
Requirements
- 5+ years of relevant professional experience in UX design, cartographic design, GIS, geospatial visualization, or a closely related discipline.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Cartography, Geography, GIS, UX Design, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Strong professional background in digital cartography, GIS, or geographic information design.
- Hands-on experience designing and implementing multi-zoom digital maps.
- Working proficiency with key mapping technologies: MapLibre, Mapbox GL JS, OpenStreetMap data, QGIS, ArcGIS, Leaflet, OpenLayers, or similar platforms.
- Experience with diverse spatial datasets: vector tiles, raster tiles, GeoJSON, shapefiles, etc.
- Ability to build visually compelling 2D and 3D map experiences.
- Familiarity with software development workflows: version control (Git), pull requests, code reviews, CI/CD pipelines.
- Ability to read technical documentation and engage with engineers on implementation trade-offs.
