Zoe Careers 2026: Remote Product Design Jobs Where Every Screen Gets A/B Tested

Last updated: August 2026

Most consumer apps ask a designer to make something people enjoy. Zoe asks something harder. It wants you to design screens that change what someone puts on their plate tomorrow morning, and then it will run an A/B test to find out whether you actually did.

That combination, real behaviour change plus a scientific method applied to your design decisions, makes Zoe one of the more distinctive places in Europe for a product designer right now. It is also mid-pivot, which is exactly when design roles get interesting.

What Zoe actually does

Zoe was co-founded in 2017 by epidemiologist Tim Spector, Jonathan Wolf and George Hadjigeorgiou. It started with at-home testing, a gut microbiome sample, a blood fat test and a glucose monitor, then used those results to score foods for each member and build a personalised nutrition programme around them.

The science is not marketing varnish. Zoe's PREDICT studies were run with King's College London, Massachusetts General Hospital, Stanford and Harvard's T.H. Chan School of Public Health. The METHOD randomised controlled trial, published in Nature Medicine in 2024 with 347 participants, found significant triglyceride reductions against a standard-care control. LDL cholesterol differences were not significant, and the results were debated publicly, which is itself telling about how the company operates.

Zoe has raised roughly $133M to date from investors including Balderton Capital and Coefficient Capital, with a $15M round in 2024 aimed squarely at the US, a market CEO Jonathan Wolf called Zoe's "biggest opportunity".

The more important recent story is the product shift. Zoe has moved from a testing-first subscription toward everyday gut health products you can buy without a kit. Daily30+, the wholefood supplement, was validated in a six-week trial with King's College London that found plant diversity outperformed a probiotic. The M&S x Zoe Gut Shot went into all 316 M&S Food stores in the UK. A Gut Health Bar launched in June 2026, with an RCT on its metabolic effects due by year end.

Be aware of the harder chapter too. Zoe cut costs by around 20% in 2024 and ran further redundancies later that year, after growth forecasts came in short. Tim Spector has said publicly that around half of members churned within six to nine months. This is a company rebuilding around a clearer product, not one that has never hit a wall.

What Woody's data says about hiring at Zoe

This is the part you will not find on the careers page. Zoe has 19 published listings on its Woody company profile, and the pattern across them is unusually consistent.

Every single Zoe role indexed on Woody is remote. Across 2024, 2025 and 2026 listings, there is not one hybrid or onsite posting. For a company headquartered in London, that is rare. Most London employers on Woody list hybrid by default.

All of it is geo-fenced to the UK or Europe. Zoe has a Boston presence and its growth thesis is American, but the roles that reach Woody are tagged United Kingdom, or United Kingdom plus Europe. If you are applying from the US, that gap is worth checking before you invest in a portfolio deep dive.

The team skews heavily design and product. Of the recent Zoe listings on Woody, four are product design roles, two are product management, one is UX research and one is creative marketing. For a science company, the centre of gravity in hiring is the app.

The live role right now is Senior Product Designer, App Experience, remote across the UK and Europe, offered as a 3 to 6 month fixed-term contract or temp-to-perm. Read that structure honestly. It is a lower-commitment door for both sides, and it follows Lead and Staff-level design postings Zoe ran in April 2026.

What it is like to work there

Zoe has been predominantly remote since 2020 and describes itself as "genuinely remote-first, built around trust, autonomy and async working." The product design team is small and multi-disciplinary, mixing product, content and motion designers with UX researchers.

Two things stand out. First, evidence beats opinion. Most of what ships gets A/B tested, and the role asks for "strong design convictions, while being willing to let evidence change your mind." Second, the brief is genuinely open. Zoe says outright that this is "not a role for someone who only wants to optimise," and asks for designers who generate real range rather than variations on one idea.

There is also a quiet expectation around AI: use it where it makes you better or faster, and know where it does not. Benefits, depending on location and contract type, have included health and vision cover, parental leave, stock options, pension contribution and mental health support.

The hiring process

Zoe publishes its process, which is refreshingly rare. Four steps:

  1. Intro chat with the talent team.
  2. Hiring manager interview, focused on craft and experience.
  3. The Remote Loop, two to four interviews on technical expertise, behaviour and collaboration. For design roles this typically includes a deep dive into two or three case studies and a cross-functional conversation.
  4. Offer and onboarding.

Average time from first contact to decision is 20 to 30 days. Zoe also says it values potential and commitment above a perfect requirements match, so a partial fit is not a reason to skip applying.

Salaries

Two sources, read separately.

From Woody listings, Zoe design bands have moved. A Senior Product Designer posting in June 2024 carried a $150k to $200k band. The 2026 postings sit far lower, with a Lead Product Designer at $80k to $100k and a Lead/Staff Product Designer at $50k to $80k. Many Zoe listings publish no band at all, and Woody normalises to USD, so treat these as directional.

Public sources point the same way. Glassdoor puts the average Senior Product Designer at Zoe at around ยฃ74,000, with a 25th to 75th percentile range of roughly ยฃ61,000 to ยฃ92,000, based on 10 submissions as of May 2026. Levels.fyi shows median software engineer compensation around ยฃ78,500. Zoe is not paying US big-tech numbers. The honest trade is mission, remote autonomy and scientific rigour rather than top-of-market cash.

Should you apply

Apply if you want consumer app work where success is measured in someone's actual habits, you are comfortable with ambiguity, and you like being proven wrong by data. Think twice if you need onsite team energy, US-based employment, or a permanent contract from day one.
