Product Design Jobs in Spain 2026: Salaries & Companies

Spain has a reputation problem among designers, and it is the wrong one. Most people picture it as the place you move to after landing a remote job somewhere else. Laptop on a terrace in Barcelona, paid in dollars, working someone else's hours.

The live listings say otherwise. Of the Spain-tagged design, product and creative roles currently published on Woody, nine out of thirteen are hybrid roles based in a Spanish office, and eight of those nine are in Barcelona. The fully remote ones are rarely Spanish companies at all. They are pan-European postings that happen to list Spain as a country they can put you on payroll in.

That split changes how you should job hunt here.

Where the jobs actually are

Spain is now Europe's eighth largest tech ecosystem at roughly €125B, and it crossed 10,000 active tech companies this year (Dealroom). Of the €3.1B Spanish startups raised in 2025, more than €2.3B went to founders in Madrid or Barcelona, with AI alone pulling €717M.

Barcelona is the design city: product companies, international scale-ups and creative agencies, and it shows in the listings. Madrid skews adtech, fintech and enterprise, and runs more senior. Valencia is the one to watch, funding up 85% year on year, though it has not yet produced enough design roles to plan a move around.

Who is hiring right now

Real, live Woody listings, not a directory of famous logos.

• Refinery89, VP of Product in Madrid, hybrid. Programmatic advertising, and the only VP-level role in the Spanish set.
• PVcase, Senior Product Designer and Product Marketing Manager open to Spain-based candidates, fully remote. Solar design software, so this is the climate tech entry point.

Two things stand out. Agencies and studios are a bigger share of the Spanish design market than they are in London or Berlin, so adjust your portfolio expectations if you have only ever worked in-house. And Spain is one of the few European markets on Woody where junior roles genuinely exist: of the thirteen live listings, two are entry-level, five mid-level, five senior and one VP. Berlin and London rarely look that balanced at the bottom.

Salaries: Woody data, then public benchmarks

The honest caveat first. Only two of the thirteen Spanish listings on Woody publish a salary band, roughly 15% transparency. That is low even by European standards.

The bands that are published:

• PVcase, Senior Product Designer, remote in Spain: $80k to $100k
• PVcase, Product Marketing Manager, remote in Spain: $50k to $80k

Both are remote European postings, which is exactly the pattern. Companies hiring across borders publish numbers. Companies hiring for a Barcelona office usually do not.

Public benchmarks put the average Product Designer in Spain around €39,559 (PayScale), with mid-level UI/UX designers between €35,000 and €48,000 (UI/UX Jobs Board). Glassdoor puts the Barcelona UX/UI average at €31,750 and Madrid UX Designers at €37,500, reaching €57,500 at the 90th percentile. Barcelona seniors with eight or more years report closer to €63,932.

Read the two sets side by side and the strategy writes itself. A remote European role at PVcase levels is worth roughly one and a half to two times a typical Barcelona in-house band, and your rent is the same either way.

On that: budget €1,700 to €2,000 per month as a single person in either city. Central one-bedrooms run about €1,550 in Barcelona versus €1,420 in Madrid, and the overall cost of living gap between the two is only about 4%. Barcelona pays tech better, Madrid stretches a foreign salary further.

Remote and visas

Spain looks flexible on paper. Around 88% of Spanish companies offer some hybrid arrangement, 25% offer fully remote roles, only 7% are fully onsite (Ravio).

But look at what "remote" means in the Spanish listings on Woody. PVcase opens its roles to Germany, Spain and Lithuania. Remofirst opens a Senior Product Designer role to Spain, Portugal, Poland, Greece, Romania and South Africa. In every case Spain is one entry on a list of payroll countries. You are not competing with Barcelona, you are competing with all of Southern and Eastern Europe.

Non-EU designers have a decent visa route. The Digital Nomad Visa, created under the Ley de Startups, requires income of at least €34,188 per year in 2026, a degree or three years of relevant experience, private Spanish health insurance, and a letter from an employer operating for at least a year. One year if you apply from a consulate abroad, three years from inside Spain, renewable up to five (Global Citizen Solutions). For an in-office Spanish job, the Highly Qualified Professional route is the usual alternative, sponsored by the employer.

How to break in

Apply to agencies, not just product companies. Dragons and MVST. account for five of the thirteen live roles. Agency work here is an on-ramp, not a consolation prize.

Do not skip the salary conversation. With 85% of listings hiding the band, your first screening call is your only leverage point.

Spanish is usually optional, but it helps. Product roles at international scale-ups run in English. Brand and marketing roles touching the local market, and agency roles serving Spanish clients, often do not.

If you are junior, this is your market. Two of thirteen live roles are entry-level, including an internship at MVST.

Pick your path before you write the cover letter. Barcelona hybrid and pan-European remote reward completely different framing.
