Here is the signal that tells you what the Indian design market really looks like. We pulled every live Woody listing for design, UX and UI roles tagged India or an Indian city this week. There were 15. Ten are remote, one is hybrid, and only four are onsite. The remote ones mostly come from international companies hiring in India. The onsite ones come from employers with Indian offices. That split explains almost everything about hiring in India right now.
Where the product design jobs are
India's tech economy is enormous, and increasingly built around global companies running teams locally. Nasscom and Zinnov estimate India's Global Capability Centres (GCCs) generated $98.4 billion in FY26, across 2,117 centres employing 2.36 million people (Reuters, May 2026). Many of those centres now run product design teams.
Bengaluru is the centre of gravity. An executive search firm, KiTalent, reports that Bengaluru startups raised $3.2 billion across 180+ deals in the 12 months to late 2024, and that the city hosts 26 of India's 111 unicorns. Treat those figures with care, since KiTalent does not source all of its numbers. The same piece notes that consumer tech firms cut more than 18,000 roles in 2023 and 2024, so the market rewards people who can show business impact, not only craft.
Beyond Bengaluru, our live onsite roles sit in Gurugram, Noida and Pune, which matches the NCR and Pune tech corridors.
Who is hiring on Woody
The real list, from live Woody listings:
- Outreach is hiring a Staff Product Designer, remote in India, senior level.
- Koru UX Design has two remote senior roles open in India: a Staff Product Designer and a Sr. UI/UX Designer.
- Loopio and Weave both list remote Product Designer roles open to India.
- Zenara Health posted a remote Product & Delivery Lead for UI/UX on 21 October.
- Onit wants a Senior Product Designer, hybrid in Pune.
- Onsite roles come from RankWatch in Gurugram, Innovaccer and Paytm in Noida, and Enterprise Bot in Bengaluru.
On the product side, Sprinto has a remote Product Manager role, and Bengaluru onsite PM jobs come from 2070 Health, Xponentiate and GeneralMind. Browse everything in product and design.
By seniority, the 15 design roles split into 4 senior, 8 mid-level and 3 entry-level. If you are junior, the entry-level roles we see are split between remote and onsite, so look at both.

Salaries: what Woody shows, and what public data says
Here is the honest part. Of the 24 India-tagged design and product listings we reviewed, exactly one shows a salary band: a remote Senior Product Manager role at MLabs at $80k to $100k. None of the 15 design listings publish pay. Indian job posts rarely do, so you will have to ask early.
For public benchmarks, the Institute of Product Leadership's July 2026 guide, citing Glassdoor, puts UX designer pay in India at roughly:
- Entry level (0 to 2 years): โน4-7 LPA
- Mid-level (3 to 5 years): โน8-16 LPA
- Senior (5+ years): โน10-22 LPA
- Principal: โน12-50 LPA
It also puts the average Product Designer at about โน10 LPA. These are broad ranges from self-reported data, and the guide itself is inconsistent on entry-level pay, so use them as a sanity check, not a promise. Compare that with a dollar-denominated remote band such as the MLabs one above, which sits far above the senior range. That gap is why remote roles for foreign companies are so competitive.
Remote work, visas and taxes
Remote is the headline on Woody. Ten of 15 design roles are remote, and every one is limited to India or a short list of countries, so you cannot apply from anywhere. They are open to you if you already live here.
If you plan to work from India for a foreign employer, the setup matters. According to NRI Information, you generally owe Indian tax on income earned while working from India, and your employer can sit on foreign payroll, hire you as a contractor, or use an Employer of Record. Contractors usually file for zero-rated GST exports under a Letter of Undertaking and pay advance tax. India has no social security agreement with the United States, which can mean double contributions. Talk to an accountant before signing.
For non-Indian nationals relocating for an onsite job, Safeguard Global summarises the Employment (E) visa. It requires specialised skills not readily available in India and a salary of at least US$25,000 a year. Stays over 180 days need FRRO registration within 14 days of arrival.
On living costs, a Bangalore coliving operator, Colive, estimates a professional's total monthly spend at โน20,000 to โน40,000 in shared housing. A private flat will cost more.
How to break into the Indian market
- Decide which door you want. Remote roles for foreign companies pay in dollars and compete globally. Onsite roles with local teams usually ask less of you on timezone overlap.
- Show product thinking. With consumer tech layoffs behind the market, case studies that show metrics, tradeoffs and shipped outcomes land better than polished screens.
- Learn to work async. Remote roles for US teams often expect overlap with US morning hours.
- Ask about pay in the first call. Almost no listing states it.
- Set up the paperwork before you accept: contractor or EOR, GST, advance tax.
