Job Description

We are looking for a strategic leader to shape the future of Protonโ€™s brand as it moves through the adoption curve towards the mainstream. This comes at a time when privacy is becoming a key focus point for citizens, governments and other organizations that shape society. You will spearhead the strategy, positioning, architecture and coming to life of the Proton brand and all the products that make up its ecosystem - Proton Mail, Proton VPN, Proton Calendar, Proton Drive and Proton Pass. We are a startup taking on much larger organizations, so this brand leader will need to lead with unconventional initiatives that reshape the debate and public consciousness. Their work will be forming opinions and attitudes on privacy, security and productivity and what it means to have a better internet in a world increasingly torn by surveillance capitalism, artificial intelligence and decentralized networks.

What you will do

  • Work with the senior leadership team to evolve the brand strategy and positioning for 
  • Report directly to the VP Marketing and drive the brand vision through the entire marketing team and wider organization. Act as guardian for the brand, from identity to application.
  • Source, evaluate and manage the right agency partners who can help us with brand and visual identity development. Be responsible for evolving the Proton brand as the company moves through the adoption curve and towards mainstream audiences.
  • Bring the brand to life through cut-through campaigns and innovative thinking that repositions the privacy debate in the minds of consumers, businesses, government and society at large.
  • Develop a carefully considered brand architecture for the growing Proton ecosystem that builds on the individual attributes of each product, while strengthening the privacy core of the unified brand.
  • Work with BU heads and product marketers to raise brand measures for each of Protonโ€™s products.
  • Figure out the most cost-effective ways to measure brand health, campaign evaluation and other key brand measures for a growing startup. Manage brand reporting across the wider leadership team and drive the conversation within the organization on how we shape perception and brand attitudes.
  • Evangelize the principles of the Proton brand throughout the organization well beyond marketing - ensure our brand comes to life in absolutely everything we do.

Job requirements

  • Extensive experience in strategic planning, brand strategy and/or brand management in tech companies, startups, online privacy and/or productivity.
  • Stellar track record for building challenger brands that provoke, particularly in the technology space.
  • Unconventional approach to bringing brands to life that drive cut-through and debate.
  • Natively forward-thinking approach to how social and digital channels intersect with the offline world; weโ€™re looking for someone whose thinking does not revolve exclusively around big budget ATL campaigns - where creativity supersedes braun.
  • Strong passion for building a better internet; youโ€™re not satisfied with the surveillance capitalism principles upon which this internet was built and want to use your creativity to disrupt that.
  • Ability to manage brand campaigns end-to-end, bringing together internal teams, external agency partners and senior leadership for maximum impact.
  • Strong empathy for the customer, user-centric mindset, and an unwillingness to lower standards.
  • A work ethic of going above and beyond to make things happen. Ability to be hands-on and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
