Job Description

We are seeking an ambitious, motivated, analytical and creative Lead Product Designer who will be able to grasp user needs and drive the creation of user-centered solutions. You will combine interfaces, research and workflows to enhance user experience, and make our Bambai suite of products more user-friendly and intuitive to attract and retain customers. A strong portfolio of successful UX/HCD and other technical projects is essential.

The Lead Product Designer will involve the human perspective in all steps of developing solutions to problems on Bambai. The ideal candidate will be collaborating closely with an amazing team of product managers and developers across Rising Digital.

The Lead Product Designer will:

  • Ensure the design of Bambai's product suite attracts, engages, and retains users.
  • Run design sprints to improve our product onboarding, user experience and reduce churn for all Bambaiโ€™s product suite.
  • Record user sessions, run design tests and suggest new features for all Bambai products.
  • Create an effective bottleneck-free map of current release processes for Bambai products.
  • Work closely with product teams, developers and key stakeholders to accelerate design works and align features with overall strategy for Bambai.
  • Achieve a high System Usability score related to individual products and features on Bambai.
  • Conceptualize and develop plans to track user experiences from early concepts to prototypes and specifications for Bambai.
  • Create an easy-to-access UX/HCD design library and documentation process for all Bambai products.
  • Improve time-to-insight, consistency and cohesiveness across Bambaiโ€™s product suite.

Location and reporting:

This is a full-time role. The Lead Product Designer will report to Risingโ€™s Director of Product. The role is open to strong candidates globally; the role will primarily be remote, and candidates should be comfortable travelling within the West African region when necessary.

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of a bachelorโ€™s degree in Design, Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
  • 5+ years of UX/HCD design experience with a strong portfolio of innovative design projects.
  • Experience planning and leading concept workshops, leading change, analysing and synthesising outputs & delivering visual product designs.
  • Deep understanding of User Experience (UX) or Human-Centered Design (HCD) methodologies.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced and agile environment.
  • Familiarity with interaction design and information architecture.
  • Background in project management, design research and documenting design processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and manage field-based design research studies.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate closely and communicate well with product teams.
  • Proficient in using Google-Suite products and various collaborative tools.
  • Proficient in design softwares and knowledge in figma is a plus.
  • EdTech experience is a plus but not required.

  • You have a strong track record of professionalism, trustworthiness, working independently sometimes and enjoy constructive conflict.
  • You are able to adapt to changes quickly in a fast-paced agile environment.
  • You have a keen interest in learning new technologies and exploring new trends in the UX space.
  • You have great management/leadership skills, are proactive, self-driven and can take initiative.
  • You are comfortable working with senior leadership, reporting on data and outcomes.
  • You are willing to take risks, fail, learn, give and receive feedback, and try new approaches.
  • You are passionate about improving the quality of education across Africa.
