Job Overview

• Lead VRChat's end-to-end algorithm and personalization strategy across matchmaking, discovery, and trust & safety.
• Partner with ML/Engineering, Data Science, Design, Community, Trust & Safety, Policy, Legal, and Operations teams.
• Design and ship algorithmic systems to improve user experience while managing platform integrity and safety.
• Provide regular updates to senior leadership and the board.

What Algorithms & Personalization includes at VRChat

• Develop recommender systems for worlds, groups, and events.
• Design social matchmaking experiences and models.
• Develop user and content understanding including embeddings, taxonomies, and intent signals.
• Ship real-time and session-aware personalization.
• Establish measurement and experimentation including offline metrics and online A/B testing.
• Build product and platform foundations for diagnostics and model iteration.

Responsibilities

• Own product strategy for personalization, matchmaking, and discovery.
• Lead roadmap for algorithmic systems including candidate generation, ranking, and session-aware recommendations.
• Partner with ML/Engineering and Data Science to deliver production-grade models and pipelines.
• Design user-facing experiences to translate algorithmic capabilities into clear user value.
• Define and operationalize success metrics with strong guardrails.
• Own experimentation end-to-end from hypothesis to rollout and tuning.
• Ensure system quality by addressing spam, manipulation, and unintended consequences with Trust & Safety and Policy teams.
• Communicate clearly to executives and cross-functional partners to align on goals and execution.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications

• 7+ years of product management experience on large-scale consumer platforms.
• Deep experience building algorithm-driven products such as personalization, ranking, recommender systems, and matchmaking.
• Strong fluency in experimentation and measurement including A/B testing and counterfactual thinking.
• Ability to work effectively with technical teams on ML systems including model lifecycle and deployment.
• Strong product judgment on tradeoffs involving relevance, diversity, engagement, and growth.
• Excellent communication skills to translate complex technical concepts into clear decisions.
