SandboxAQ is looking for a UI/UX researcher and designer to help build the interfaces for the next generation of computational tools for AI and simulation in chemistry and the life sciences. In this role, you will design workflows that allow researchers to intuitively derive complex insights from large datasets and easily configure large-scale cloud simulations.
You will bring customer requirements to life through wireframes, mockups and prototypes, which will be refined through workshops, user interviews and other stakeholder interactions. Collaborating closely with our engineering team, you will ensure that the features you design are effectively implemented. Your core responsibilities will include defining the user experience, conducting research to validate user interactions, and crafting engaging interfaces.
What Youโll Do
- Own the design of the front-end of SandboxAQโs chemistry and life sciences simulation platform by creating wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups that effectively communicate design concepts and user interactions.
- Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and developers to gather and understand design requirements and ensure seamless design implementation.
- Conduct workshops, qualitative interviews, usability testing, and other user research methods to inform and validate design decisions.
- Present designs to stakeholders, including users, engineers, and product managers, and iterate based on feedback.
- Drive the visual design of the user interface, by developing a style guide and/or design system, ensuring consistency across UI components and user interactions, and providing detailed specifications to front-end developers.
- Analyze analytics to improve interactions with the application.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelorโs Degree in User Experience, Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or another relevant field.
- 6+ years of experience building interfaces with complex scientific and data-intensive workflows and visualizations for B2B applications.
- You have a portfolio demonstrating your passion for clear, intuitive, and user-centered designs. Work examples should: 1) showcase your visual and interaction design skills, 2) demonstrate design thinking from problem to ideation to solution, and 3) show how your work impacted the business.
- Experience conducting user research utilizing various methods, including but not limited to usability studies, contextual inquiry, and surveys.
- Skilled in problem-solving, analyzing research data, identifying end-user pain points, and translating user requirements into design solutions.
- Analytically minded with a skill to connect seemingly unrelated information and ideas, across different technical specialties from various technical stakeholders
- Proficient in Figma, with knowledge of other design tools (Sketch, Adobe Suite) to produce wireframes and high-fidelity mockups.
- Certifications in UX/UI design
- Demonstrate strong verbal communication and presentation abilities, essential for effectively collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams and articulating design concepts to stakeholders
- Experience working with software in one or more of the following domains: Chemistry, Medical Sciences, Physics (Quantum)
Nice to Haves
- Masterโs Degree in one of the STEM fields or related areas.
- Thrives in ambiguity, has a bias for action, and is a self-starter who has the ability to work independently in a remote work environment.
- Understanding of advanced computing technologies for simulation products.
- Familiarity with AI and emerging machine learning workflows.
- Familiarity with CSS, HTML and JavaScript etc to a level that supports effective communication with the front-end development team.
