TRM Labs Careers 2026: Remote Design Jobs Where Your User Is a Federal Investigator

Last updated: September 2026

Most product design jobs are judged by whether someone clicks, converts or comes back. At TRM Labs, the measure is whether a federal agent can follow stolen money across six blockchains, name the network behind it, and build a case that survives court.

That brief is open right now. TRM has a Senior Product Designer role live on Woody, remote across the United States, and it is recruiting a Head of Product Design and a Director of Brand Design at the same time. Three senior design roles at once is not backfilling. It is a company building a design function on purpose, in the same quarter its valuation doubled.

What TRM Labs actually does

Founded in 2018 and based in San Francisco, TRM Labs builds blockchain intelligence software. Its platform traces cryptocurrency across chains so investigators can see where illicit funds moved, who controls the wallets, and how a criminal network is wired together.

The customer list is unusual for a company this young. As of February 2026, TRM served more than 600 government agencies and institutions across 75 or more countries, including the FBI, the IRS, the DEA and the State Department, alongside banks and exchanges (CoinDesk). Its Beacon Network, a real-time crime response coalition launched in 2024, now covers roughly 75 percent of global crypto volume.

The money has followed. In February 2026, TRM raised a $70 million Series C led by Blockchain Capital at a $1 billion valuation, with Goldman Sachs, Bessemer, Thoma Bravo and Citi participating (SiliconANGLE). Seven months later, existing investors extended that round at a $2 billion valuation, and CEO Esteban CastaΓ±o told Fortune he expected annual recurring revenue to cross $100 million within weeks (Fortune).

The strategic turn matters if you are a designer. CastaΓ±o has said the mission is no longer just blockchain forensics but mapping online crime broadly, crime that AI is making faster and cheaper to commit. TRM put AI agents inside its Forensics product in 2025 and is now trying to make "AI investigations" a category the way coding assistants became one.

Designing for investigators, and for agents

The Senior Product Designer brief is unusually concrete: end-to-end, data-heavy workflows on the investigation and compliance platform, including agentic AI experiences and reusable design-system patterns. The Head of Product Design posting is blunter. It is a player-coach role whose mandate includes deciding how design runs day to day, how it drives business outcomes, and how it leads both humans and AI agents toward better decisions. TRM calls AI a genuine collaborator sitting on top of strong fundamentals, not a replacement for them.

That is two hard problems in one job. The first is density: link-analysis graphs, cross-chain flows, evidence trails and sanctions data, all legible under time pressure. The second is trust calibration. An agent surfaces a lead, a human decides whether to act, and the consequence is a subpoena or a frozen account, not a bounced email. Designing the moment where someone accepts or rejects a machine's conclusion is new work, and few companies are doing it at these stakes.

What the Woody data says about design hiring here

Here is what our own listings show, which you will not find on an aggregator. The live role sits in Product Design, tagged Remote for the United States, Full-time, Senior-level at five years and up, with a $150k to $200k band. It went up on 29 September 2026, and TRM is filed under Fintech on its Woody company profile.

Two patterns matter. Every design role TRM has posted through Woody has been senior: no junior opening, no internship, no mid-level entry point. If you are early in your career, this is not your door.

More usefully, in July 2024 TRM listed a Senior Designer role on Woody marked "Remote, Non-US" with the location set to Anywhere. The current opening is US-only, but the precedent is real. TRM has hired designers outside the United States before, so if you are not American, set an alert rather than assuming the door is shut.

What it is like to work there

Remote-first at TRM is structural rather than a perk line. The company runs async on Notion, Loom and Slack, and invests in offsites, regional meetups and onboarding buddies to hold it together across time zones. Its values, called Leadership Principles, are Master Craftsperson, Inspiring Colleague and Impact-Oriented Trailblazer, and TRM says explicitly that it does not celebrate activity, only impact. "TRM speed" is the phrase that comes up most: its engineering principles describe an 80/20 lens on every problem and a goal of cutting timelines by 50 to 80 percent.

One detail people miss: the R&D organisation is distributed but participates in "work weeks," typically once or twice a quarter at a TRM hub, occasionally scheduled with as little as 14 days' notice. Travel and lodging are covered. If your life cannot absorb short-notice trips, factor that in.

The counterweight comes from Glassdoor. TRM sits at 4.1 out of 5 across 51 reviews, benefits at 4.3, with 76 percent saying they would recommend it. Work-life balance, though, sits at 2.9 and has slipped this year. Headcount has passed 500. Benefits include full medical, dental and vision coverage, flexible PTO and parental leave.

The hiring process

TRM documents this, which is more than most companies do. Expect a recruiter screen, a hiring manager interview on skills and past impact, three to four skill-based interviews that are technical, strategic or case-based, and two to three behavioural ones on collaboration, decision-making and velocity. That is three to seven conversations depending on the role, each from a pre-set question bank and a shared rubric. Glassdoor puts the average process at roughly 15 days across 28 reported interviews, which is quick at this size. Bring two stories: one where you made dense, ugly data legible, and one where you shipped something good under real time pressure.

Salaries

The Woody band for the live Senior Product Designer role is $150k to $200k. Public listings for the same role are narrower, showing $176,000 to $193,000 base plus equity. Levels.fyi holds TRM data but it is thin on design, with reported totals across all roles running from about $62,000 for an HR role in Serbia to $255,000 for a senior blockchain infrastructure engineer. Glassdoor has around 70 submissions and rates compensation 4.1 out of 5. The read: mid to high $100ks base for a senior IC, plus equity in a company that doubled its valuation in seven months.

Should you apply

Apply if you want your work used by people whose job is to stop crime, dense data and ambiguous AI behaviour appeal to you, and intensity reads as energising rather than draining. Skip it if you need predictable hours or a mature design system to inherit.

FAQ

Is TRM Labs fully remote? Yes, and it runs async on Notion, Loom and Slack. The R&D organisation gathers for "work weeks" at a TRM hub roughly once or twice a quarter, travel covered.

What does a Senior Product Designer earn at TRM Labs? The live role on Woody carries a $150k to $200k band. Public listings for the same US remote position show $176,000 to $193,000 base plus equity.

Does TRM Labs hire designers outside the United States? The current opening is US-only, but TRM listed a "Remote, Non-US" Senior Designer role on Woody in 2024 with the location set to Anywhere, so non-US hiring has happened before.

How many interview rounds does TRM Labs run? Three to seven: a recruiter screen, a hiring manager interview, three to four skill-based interviews and two to three behavioural ones. Glassdoor reports about 15 days end to end.

Do I need crypto experience to get hired in design at TRM? Not as a hard requirement. TRM says it deliberately hires outside typical Silicon Valley profiles, and the brief leans more on complex data workflows and AI interaction patterns than on prior blockchain work.
